Spelling Bee / What's the hardest word you can spell?

Date: 28th Jan 2016 @ 2:13am

Well done Jake, Adam and Eesa! I heard that you were wonderful sports and fantastic spellers, and that you displayed exemplary behaviour and good humour when representing our school at the Kingsway spelling bee. We are very proud of you indeed.

What is the trickiest word you can spell, Year 6? Show off how smart you are!

My word is onomatopoeia! yes

Thanks, Jesse. I can't wait to be back! It's very boring sitting at home with your leg in the air, and we have lots of posh Year 6 work to be getting on with... :)

My word used to be photosynthesis but now it is xenophobia, I think I have got it right I'm not really sure.

Miss le Couteur wrote:

WELL, Miss Mizna, how can you check whether a spelling is correct or not? :)

Jesse wrote:

dictionary

TICK!

Haha

Mizna wrote:

The only way you can check if the spelling is right or not is to check in the dictionary or you can practice the word over and over again.

Who can give me a definition of 'onomatopoeia'?

Merit for the first correct answer!

Jesse wrote:

When you write the sound of the word
E.g: crash ❗️

Miss le Couteur wrote:

Excellent, Jesse! :D

1x Merit for you.

Another example of onomatopoeia: splish-splash-splosh!

Jesse wrote:

Thank you miss L 😀

Millie 5LC wrote:

Another E.G: BOOM BANG POW they are basically things out of a comic lime batman or a story line that is how I remember it!

Miss le Couteur wrote:

Good work, Millie. You're welcome in Year 6 next year! :) That is a very effective way of remembering the definition.

Millie wrote:

Thank you Mrs le Couteur! 😊

Miss le Couteur wrote:

Good word, Suman. You will be learning a little about stereotyping and prejudice in PSHE this half-term (you may have done so already with Mrs. Vedvik). :)

My word is antiferromagnetism or floccinaucinihilipilification. By the way these ARE real words.

Miss le Couteur wrote:

Adam, Adam, Adam! How you make me chuckle. (And confuse me and make me have to Google words I have never heard of and could not ever pronounce.)

Use them in a sentence for a Merit AND a prize money cannot buy: shocking me into silence for a moment.

Suman wrote:

What's the most weirdest word you've ever said( it has to be a real word).

Adam wrote:

Why are M and T the most unused letters in the alphabet?
Because they're MT(empty).

Miss le Couteur wrote:

Very punny!

I miss you, too, Kayley, and all the rest of 6L (and even 6M - a bit!).

Being at home for weeks is very boring. But Mrs. Vedvik has been emailing me to let me know how you are all getting on in all your subjects; I'm so pleased to hear you are all working hard and being lovely to her and each other. :)
