Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to our Class Page!

I'm Mr Redmond and this is my first year in Year 3 - we've had an amazing start and I'm so excited to continue working with 3R. 

This term we are focusing on the topic 'Hunter Gatherer... or Farmer?' In this topic, we examine Prehistoric Britain and look at early human history and changes in Britain during the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age. As part of our learning, we enjoy an exciting, hands-on workshop at Tatton Park where we examine what life was like for people living at the time. 

English

In English, we will explore a book called "Stone Age Boy" by Satoshi Kitamura and find out about the life of the famous English fossil hunter, Mary Anning. We will practise key English skills and complete narrative and non-fiction pieces of writing based on these two books. Children will also practise reading and comprehension skills (VIPERS) through a weekly focus on our class novel "Tilly and the Time Machine" and regular class guided reading work on shorter extracts of a range of texts.  Please support your child by hearing them read each night at home too.

Maths

Over the course of the year, we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme. In Autumn, this focuses on three units: Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and, Multiplication and Division. We work with numbers to 1,000 in Year 3 and focus on 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x and 8x times tables and their related division facts.  Every Friday the children will be completing their X-Factor Maths and they will note in their homework diaries which times table they will be working on each week. Please support your child by practising the times table that has been set that week and doing the Monday Maths which is given every Monday on ClassDojo.
