6R 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 6R's class page!
I am Mrs.Roberts and this will be my 3rd year teaching this cohort of children!! This year we are lucky enough to be joined by Mrs.Chappell who will be teaching alongside myself and Miss.Williams with the help and support of our amazing TA Mrs.Gunn as well as Mrs.Haastrup and Mrs Salter. The children will be working in different groups throughout the year to ensure they get the most out of our teaching and allow them to feel confident about the upcoming SATs.
This term, our topic is "Survival of the Fittest?" - a learner led enquiry that will explore the life and findings of Charles Darwin as he took on his adventure to South America. Our aim this term is to facilitate cross-curricular and enquiry based learning to explore Darwin's theory of evolution, the social history that surrounds his discoveries and the geographical features of South America. Our dance sessions, art and music lessons will also be linked to South America and we will be researching and re-creating South American dishes in D&T.
Our text in English is "The Explorer" by Katherine Rundell, and we have used the ideas from the text in conjunction with the ideas of the children to create an exciting hook into our topic. Expect adventure, outdoor learning, drama, practival investigations and much more!
As much as we will be focusing on our core values of enjoyment, creativity and challenge, we will be working hard to support your children throughout their important final year at Etchells. We will regularly update the website and Classdojo with useful resources, and will always be happy to chat to you about ways you can support your children at home.
