P.E Leaders - Mrs Roberts & Miss Pennill
P.E aims to develop students' physical competence, knowledge of movement and safety and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also develops students' confidence and generic skills - especially those of collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation.
At Etchells, the children enjoy taking part in a wide range of sports during their lessons including: basketball, netball, cricket, rounders, football, tag rugby, tennis and swimming. Classes are timetabled to make full use of our extensive field and separate 'ball court', as well as our indoor hall to teach the gymnastics and dance elements of the currciulum. The children benefit from working with a variety of different Sports Specialists including coaches from Manchester City Football Club, Dance Education Artists, coaches from Life Leisure and local coach, John Williams.
We plan an extensive programme of after school sporting activities including Netball, Karate, Gymnastics, Running and Multi skills, which are all extremely popular. We also give all children the opportunity to take part in competitive tournaents and festivals alongside other schools from across the borough.
Etchells regularly take part in national sporting events such as The Daily Mile, Sustrans Big Pedal, Joe Wicks' School Workout and much more. During Sport Relief 2018, the children all participated in Etchells' Indoor Cycling Challenge to see how far they could pedal on an exercise bike throughout the week, which helped to raise a massive £1460 for Sport Relief. We also have regular vists from "Freddy Fit" which is enjoyed by all children from Nursery to Year 6, and helps to promote healthy lifestyles.
