3VC 2022 - 2023

Mrs Vedvik

Year 3 Teacher (3VC)

Mrs Chappell

Welcome to 3VC

The 3V team includes Mrs Vedvik, Mrs Chappell and Mrs Rumney.

Mrs Vedvik teaches on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Chappell teaches on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

This term we are investigating the question “What was the Legacy of the Ancient Civilisations?” This topic will explore the exciting Ancient Civilisations that produced many of the wonders of the world. Using artefacts and sources, we will identify similarities and differences then focus on the marvels of Ancient Egypt, investigating daily life and achievements and inventions. Our learning will extend into our arts curriculum with a Mayan inspired dance and Egyptian artwork.

English

In English, we will explore a short film clip by Pixar called "The Blue Umbrella" and extend and consolidate our Science learning with a study of the non-fiction text “An Anthology of Intriguing Animals” by Ben Hoare. We will practise key English skills and complete narrative and non-fiction pieces of writing based on these. Children will also practise reading and comprehension skills (VIPERS) through regular class guided reading work on short extracts of a range of texts.  Please support your child by hearing them read each night at home too.

Maths

This term, we will continue to follow the White Rose Maths scheme. In Spring, this focuses on four units: Multiplication and Division, Length and Perimeter, Fractions, and Mass and Capacity. We work with numbers to 1,000 in year three and focus on 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x and 8x times tables and their related division facts.  Every Friday the children will be completing their X-Factor Maths and they will note in their homework diaries which times table they will be working on each week. Please support your child by practising the times table that they have been set that week and doing the Monday Maths which is given every Monday on class dojo.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact either Mrs Vedvik or Mrs Chappell on the door at the end of the day or catch Mrs Rumney as you drop off in the morning. She will pass on any messages.

Alternatively, please use the lks2@etchells.stockport.sch.uk email address and Mrs Collins (our phase leader) will get back to you.
