I attended Governor training on the Prevent Duty in November. It was extremely useful and gave me a good insight into what we should be doing as a school towards 'preventing' radicalisation. We have updated our safeguarding and ICT policies to reflect this. I am organising training for the full staff and governors for January as it is vitally important our school has a good understanding of this issue.

In the future there may be many changes to the way that children will be assessed within all phases in schools. As Curriculum Chair, I attended a very informative course last week, led by the Local Authority, to outline the changes to assessment without levels. It was good to meet other governors of various experience and discuss how important it is for School governors to be confident and well informed to challenge the school on its performance in improving pupils' learning. I can confidently say, that evidence shows our school is working robustly to prepare and implement these up and coming changes to assessment.

The governing body are responsible for the monitoring and review of the schools' annual budget and as such must ensure that we understand how our school is funded and how to best utilise these funds to achieve the best outcomes for our pupils. I attended a governor training course on 'Schools Funding' yesterday to gain an insight into how the government distribute funding to the Local Authorities for maintained schools. You may have heard on the news recently that George Osbourne has made a promise to introduce a fairer funding formula for all schools. The current system resulted in regional disparities of as much as £3000 per pupil. Stockport is one of the most poorly funded regions in the country and we have been following these proposed changes closely. The changes are expected to take effect from 2017/2018 and we are awaiting further updates on how the proposed fairer funding changes will benefit us. The course highlighted the different funding streams - Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG), Revenue Grants (such as pupil premium) and Capital Grants and how these are split into different pools of funding. Current and future budget related issues were discussed and further training is being offered on Budget Monitoring which I have previously attended. Our finance committee are well versed on closely monitoring our school budget to ensure that we remain a positive year end position and utilise all revenue streams appropriately and effectively.
