Class: 2W Year: 2019 - 2020

Following on from our work on Victorians , during which the children wanted to find out about why children worked down mines and what their jobs were like, we decided to do a design challange to make a miners 'cage' or lift for taking miners down into the mines. We decided to make our cages big enough for lego people to use and had the additional challange of using a pulley which we weren't touching. There were so many difficulties encountered and overcome and the children are rightly very proud of what they managed to achieve. Even those pupils who didn't complete the task still had success in constructing the lift itself and also in beginning to make the 'A' frames that were to support the 'lift' or cage.
