2W 2022 - 2023
Mrs Wilson
Welcome to 2W!

Our Spring term promises to be just as busy and exciting as our Autumn term was. We are moving on to a topic called Awesome Animals and will be finding out lots of information about how animals keep themselves healthy, how they can be sorted by scientists, what we mean by food chains and life cycles and what the features of some of the more common animal families are. The children will also find out about how humans can keep themselves healthy; looking at life on board a Victorian ship and comparing this to the life of modern explorers such as those on the international space station today.
In geography we study the continents and find out why some parts of the earth are hotter than others, while also developing our own sketch maps. We take a very exciting trip to Chester Zoo and then use the photos we take there, to help us to create powerpoint presentaions in computing.
For RE we look at the Jewish religion and also learn the Easter story. We learn about what we can do to stay safe (including internet safety) dring PSHE, investigate camouflage patterns in art and design and sew our own finger puppets in design and technology.
Our English sees us learning about non-fiction texts and we write non- chronological reports, recounts and diary entries while for maths we continue to look at number and are introduced to fractions.
There are a number of files and additional pages attached to our class page, to support you with helping your child at home over the coming months but I'd like to particularly point you towards the writing and maths Age related expectations (AREs) as these form the backbone of our teaching in Year 2 and throughout the school. You can see from these, specific skills that we would expect a child in this year group to be able to complete during their time with us.
