Mrs Townend

Mrs Lambert

Welcome to Year 3/4

Welcome to our Class Page!

We are Mrs Townend and Mrs Lambert and we share our fantastic class. Mrs Townend teaches on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Lambert teaches on Thursday and Friday.

Our foundation work this term will be "The Romans". We will find out about how and why their empire expanded and what was their legacy. This will be followed by a DT unit on "Torches which links to our Science this term, where we will learn about Electricity. Art will link to our computing unit on Pixils with work on George Seurat and pointiliism.

English

In English, we will write diaries based upon "The Journal of Lliona, A Young Slave", which will support our History topic of The Romans then further practising key writing skills by writing a poem based upon "I Rise" by Maya Angelou. Children will also work on reading and comprehension skills every day. Spelling is taught in school in weekly lessons. Please support your child by hearing them read each night at home too. Reading raffle tickets are given every time your child's reading diary is signed and returned!

Maths

Over the course of the term, we will be furthering our understanding of fractions in addition to learning about Time. In June, Year 4 children must complete a times tables test to check they know all their tables from 1-12x. In Y3, we revisit the 2x, 5x, 10x, then focus on the 3x, 4x and 8x times tables and their related division facts. We have TTRockstars for children to use at home and the 'Hit the Button' game is also popular and helps build number sense and fluency. Please support your child by practising these times tables.

Supporting your child at home

If you can do anything at home, please support your child by hearing them read as often as you can. We will try to hear them read in school and support their learning with whole class comprehension but 1:1 reading really does help them progress in all subjects. We will learn the times tables but little extras at home will help.  Children will also have half-termly topic homework activities to choose from.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact either Mrs Townend or Mrs Lambert on the door at the beginning or end of the day.  Alternatively, please use the lks2@etchells.stockport.sch.uk  email address and Mrs Collins (our phase leader) will get back to youl
