Mrs Townend
Mrs Lambert
Welcome to Year 3/4
Welcome to our Class Page.
We are Mrs Townend and Mrs Lambert and we share our fantastic class. Mrs Townend teaches on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Lambert teaches on Thursday and Friday.
This term we are focusing on the topic 'Hunter Gatherer... or Farmer?' In this topic, we examine Prehistoric Britain and look at early human history and changes in Britain during the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age. As part of our learning, we enjoy an exciting, hands-on workshop at Tatton Park where we examine what life was like for people living at the time.
English
In English, we will explore a book called "Stone Age Boy" by Satoshi Kitamura and find out about the life of the famous English fossil hunter, Mary Anning. We will practise key English skills and complete narrative and non-fiction pieces of writing based on these two books. Children will also practise reading and comprehension skills through daily class guided reading work on shorter extracts of a range of texts. Please support your child by hearing them read each night at home too.
Maths
Over the course of the year, we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme. In Autumn, this focuses on three units: Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and Multiplication and Division. We work with numbers to 1,000 in year three and with four digit numbers in year 4. We focus on 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x and 8x times tables and their related division facts (Y3) and all the times tables (Y4).

Supporting your child at home
If you can do anything at home, please support your child by hearing them read as often as you can. We will try to hear them read in school and support their learning with whole class comprehension but 1:1 reading really does help them progress in all subjects. We will learn the times tables but little extras at home will help. Children will also have half-termly topic homework activities to choose from.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact either Mrs Townend or Mrs Lambert on the door at the beginning or end of the day. Alternatively, please use the lks2@etchells.stockport.sch.uk email address and Mrs Collins (our phase leader) will get back to youl
