Welcome to Year 3/4
Welcome to our Class Page.
This term we are investigating the question “What was the Legacy of the Ancient Civilisations?” This cross-curricular topic will explore the exciting Ancient Civilisations that produced many of the wonders of the world. Using artefacts and sources, we will identify similarities and differences then focus on the marvels of Ancient Egypt, investigating daily life and achievements and inventions.
English
In English, we will explore a short film clip by Pixar called "The Blue Umbrella" and enjoy “The Sound Collector” poem. We will also write non-fiction texts which complement our Science learning ion the area of “Animals, including Humans”. Children will also practise reading and comprehension skills (VIPERS) through regular class guided reading work on short extracts of a range of texts. Please support your child by hearing them read each night at home too.
Maths
This term, we will continue to follow the White Rose Maths scheme. In Spring, this focuses on four units: Multiplication and Division, Length and Perimeter, Fractions, and Mass and Capacity. We work with numbers to 1,000 in year three and with four digit numbers in year 4. We focus on 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x and 8x times tables and their related division facts (Y3) and all the times tables (Y4).
Supporting your child at home
If you can do anything at home, please support your child by hearing them read as often as you can. We will try to hear them read in school and support their learning with whole class comprehension but 1:1 reading really does help them progress in all subjects. We will learn the times tables but little extras at home will help. Children will also have half-termly topic homework activities to choose from.
