2W Mosque visit

Lesson: Religious education

Class: 2W Year: 2022 - 2023

We were lucky enough to be able to visit Cheadle Masjid (Mosque) before it is replaced by a new building in 2023, to find out more about how Muslims use the mosque in different ways.

On arrival the children found out that they would have to take their shoes off before entering the main part of the building. The children learnt about the importance of the domed roof (to bouce the sound to all of the members of the congregation). They learnt about the process of Wadu (washing or cleansing of the body before a service is celebrated). They had a go at writing in Arabic and were able to see their names written in Arabic by a member of the Masjid. Using centicubes, the children found out that one of the five pilars of Islam is to give to charity (sadaqua). Some of our more confident Muslim pupils were able to recite prayers in Arabic using the imam's microphone.

There was so much to find out about during the visit and it will be interesting to see how the new building changes the way in which the muslim community uses this Masjid when it opens next year.
